Victor’s Inspiring Story of Success

“The American Dream is real!  Moving to the United States has given me better economy (income), which enabled me to buy a house, raise a family and put my two daughters through college,” said Victor Ramos, Material Handler, Distribution Services Unit.

Victor clearly remembers  the day he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP)…  “my first thoughts were  no sports, no life at night – I better make the best of it.”

Born in Mexicali, MEX., Victor wanted to become a teacher, he said “education opens doors in a lot of ways.  Teachers can change children lives and help them see things differently.”  With the support of his family, he was able to accomplish his dream of becoming a teacher.

In 2000, Victor moved to Arizona, he said it was the “best decision ever.“  He first heard about AIB from a job placement recruiter that his wife of 26 years was working with.  He happened to be at the right place at the right time.  The recruiter told him about an organization that hires people who are blind, so he thought he would check it out.

Victor started his career 21 years ago, working in the Production Services Unit (PSU).  He said “when I got my first paycheck, I had tears running down my face…  an opportunity to have a life.”   Since then, Victor moved to AIB’s Distribution Services Unit, where he is a Material Handler; picking orders to be shipped to customers around the world. Looking back, Victor said that his family and positive outlook has helped him get where he is today.  “Keep going no matter what and remember you may have problems, but others have it worse.”
